Caching Sea Tiles

Is there a way to detect sea tiles so when caching eg: whole of the UK it can skip the empty tiles ?

Maybe have a flag as no tile needed to save db space ?

well, current implementation uses rectangle based area, i guess we need more accurate area selection

If the caching could detect "SEA" or blank tile - maybe by size and then not store binary data ? a flag instead.

maybe by the size, should be much smaller

Would still need to store a blank entry so you know that it has been cached in the database and then possibly return an image from my resources instead ?

are you trying to 'save' space ;} 'empty' tiles are only < 1KB

I want to cache the uk for offline mobile usage but so far just zoom 12 on open street maps is 175Mb

my cache is ~1GB but with few levels, i doubt you will save much by removing small tiles, 1KB * 10000 sea tiles = only 10MB
