ReloadMap without first making tiles empty.

Is it possible to not have the map display go to grey (empty tile color) when doing a ReloadMap?

I am working on a MapProvider for Bing Traffic Maps. These render the traffic data (eg red lines on roads, green lines, etc) directly on the map image. What I would like to do is ReloadMap and update graphic in a background thread.

I have it going except for the map tiles "flashing" to grey on refresh.

Is the key to doing this related to the TileMatrix? Would I have to keep the tile in the matrix, but still force it to load the image from the server?

A nudge in the right direction would be great. Thanks.

do you need update graphics or tiles itself, meaning same tile can change?

Yes, as traffic conditions change, the roads would change color (eg green=no traffic, red=traffic delays). So every few minutes I will reload the map. So, the map bounds (ViewArea) wouldn't be changing, but the tiles themselves would change.
