Loading Time, internet detection

radioman:

My map loads up nice and speedy when I have an active Internet connection or when I have no network cable connected.  But, if I have a network cable connected to a LAN without Internet access, the map takes very long to load.  I have confirmed this behavior on several computers.  I believe this is because of the call you make to check for a connection which is System.Net.DNS.GetHostEntry.  Is there a better way to institute this check to improve the startup performance of my application?  Perhaps trying to make a socket connection to a website we expect to be up.  I'm thinking doing it that way will allow for a timeout so that you can detect the situation I describe above.  Any thoughts?
