Map overlays and errors

I have created a windows forms app in Visual Basic with a map incorporated.  The map works great and will add an overlay from the attached SQL database without any issues, upto 10,000 markers.

The markers are all custom from PNG images depending on the category of alert generated.  The problem I have is that when I'm doing this in real time, so when I parse through a list and add markers on the fly, after a random amount, the map vanishes and is replaced with a big red cross, shortly after this I will get an exception error that the collection has been modified and the app crashes.  This only happens when doing them real time if I add all the markers to the db then pull them all out again they will show correctly with no error.

As far as I know, I'm using the latest build.  Any ideas whats going wrong ?

disable invalidation when updating/adding markers:

Map.HoldInvalidation = true;
{
 ...
...
...
...
}
Map.Refresh();

..takes few minutes for analyzing demos, and you would know that already..
